England's Six Nations squad selectedEngland's Six Nations squad selected
Caretaker coach Stuart Lancaster has rung the changes in England's national squad ahead of this year's Six Nations tournament, guardian.co.uk reports.
Keen to distance himself from the reliance of experience as favoured by previous coach Martin Johnson, Lancaster left Mike Tindall, Mark Cueto and Nick Easter from the squad, replacing them with nine uncapped players, including Scarlets' Owen Farrell and Ben Morgan.
Northampton's pedigree for providing national players has remained despite Johnson's departure, with Callum Clark, Phil Dowson and Lee Dickson from the Saints all vying for their first caps.
Also out of the squad were Jonny Wilkinson, Lewis Moody and Steve Thompson, all of whom hung up their international rugby t shirts following the widely-criticised campaign in New Zealand. Lancaster, it appears, has made no attempt to lure elder players out of retirement following the sea change in the RFU backroom.
Andrew Sheridan, Louis Deacon and Richard Wigglesworth are also out of the side, albeit through injuries that would see them miss the whole tournament.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lancaster explained of his selection: "We've picked a side which is exciting, talented and committed to get us back to where we want to be - at the top of the game.
"I've spoken to those not selected and told them the door is not closed. But I want to use the Six Nations as an opportunity to develop the next players in those positions and develop a leadership group that is strong and wants to be the best."
