All Black winger Sonny Bill Williams to box for NZ heavyweight title
New Zealand winger Sonny Bill Williams is preparing for yet more glory - this time in his part-time career as a boxer, irishtimes.com reports.
Under his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union, Williams is allowed to take part in a limited number of bouts outside of his day job; playing for the All Blacks and his new role with Super 15 side, the Waikato Chiefs.
In light of this, Williams is looking to cement his reputation as both a formidable boxer and a RWC-winning rugby player by attempting to take New Zealand's vacant heavyweight boxing title.
Despite only boasting four fights, Williams is as-yet undefeated; with two victories coming from knock-outs. The title fight will be against the much more experienced Richard Tutaki, however - who has had 41 professional bouts but only won 19.
Williams will look set to see a completely different crowd at the boxing than he is typically used to, with the sea of All Black jerseys substituted for the designer menswear traditionally seen on those watching the boxing at ringside.
Williams, capped 14 times by the All Blacks, told BBC News all about his newest challenge: "As a boxer I'm evolving.
"There's a lot of improvement in me. [Tutaki] is a seasoned campaigner so hopefully I haven't bitten off too much, but I'll be right. After the last fight I said to my manager I want to try and step up in class. I was offered the chance to fight for the belt and it's not every day you get the opportunity."
